2014 biddeford ball
the twenty fourteen biddeford ball was held on on august 23rd
The inaugural event, which took place Saturday, August 23, 2014, was a huge success. More than 400 fabulously dressed attendees packed the lobby of Building 13 on the historic Pepperell Mill Campus. The night featured a gorgeous fashion show with 40 models showcasing the Angelrox clothing line, Maker’s Market, silent auction and semi-formal dance with local band Old Soul performing live.
Biddeford Ball has continued to be the talk of the town. Mayor Alan Casavant, who also modeled on the runway clothed by Portland Dry Goods, called the evening “a game changer for Biddeford.” People have raved about the good energy and joys of seeing so many lovely people dressed up and having such a grand time. Roxi Suger, owner and designer of Angelrox clothing and its flagship boutique Suger, and her husband and business partner Julian Schlaver spearheaded the event. Roxi said of the event: “The Biddeford Ball surpassed all our hopes and expectations for its beauty, sense of community, funds raised and scope. Only possible thanks to the exceeding generosity of our sponsors and partners and the dozens of wonderful volunteers who came together to make it happen.”
The 2014 Biddeford Ball raised nearly $20,000 for local charity. We have already distributed $5,000 to Seeds of Hope, Stone Soup, and Saco Meals through Union Church Missions. The remaining funds, over $14,000, were earmarked for the exterior renovation of the Marble Block. The building is a historic landmark on Biddeford’s Main Street, best known for formerly housing a Reny’s department store and generously deeded by the Reny’s family to Engine, a community arts nonprofit organization.
Not only was the ball a successful fundraiser for local organizations, the night truly embodied the idea of community. Pepperell Mill Campus generously donated space, labor and furniture for the event. Attendees enjoyed beer from Biddeford brewer Banded Horn, wine from Saco’s Vic & Whit’s, coffee from Maine Coast Roast, and food from Dahlia’s Delights, Biscuits & Co., The Chef and The Gardener, and cakes from Reilly’s Bakery, Perk, and Fernleaf Bakery. Bloomers, Snell Family Farm & Calluna Fine Flowers of Ogunquit provided flowers for decor. Maine Magazine was the exclusive magazine sponsor of the event. University of New England, local banks and professional services also helped make the evening a success.
Delilah Poupore, director of Heart of Biddeford, said: “We are delighted that Angelrox chose to relocate to Biddeford! The Biddeford Ball was a demonstration of what happens when creative people put their minds and hearts together!”
